

Born in 1930 in Centerline, Michigan, Nita moved to Texas with her family as a teenager the summer of ’45 where she attended Galveston Ball High ’45 – ’46, before moving to Sealey, Texas, and graduating from Sealey High School in ’47. Nita was the Secretary of the Dietician for the Clear Creek ISD for 7 years, retiring in ’83. Serving as a charter member for 47 years of Texas Avenue Baptist Church she actively participated in the choir as well as the anniversary committee. These last four years, her Joy Class would offer a monthly fellowship in her living room. Through her life, Nita found peaceful joy in singing, writing poetry, and painting.
Nita is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ben A. Word; her parents John & Madora Harper; and daughter-in-law, June Word. She is survived by her children: son, B. Wayne Word, his wife Rebecca; son, Richard A. Word; daughter Benita Burns, her husband Bill; six grandchildren: Matthew Word, Faith Lacy, Danyale Word, Benjamin Word, Jordan Burns & Hillary Burns; with four grandchildren-in-law; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald Harper, wife Dot, & their family; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Pallbearers: Matthew Word, Benjamin Word, Jordan Burns, Devin Word, Bill Burns, Joe Lacy, Hudson Lacy, Jim Gray, Bobby Walker & honorary, Wayne Word.
