

On July 17, 1941, Rose Marie (Barber) and Reuben House Thompson welcomed their only child, Rose.
Rose was born and raised in Washington D.C. She graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor of Science in 1963 and a Master of Science in 1967. While at Howard University, she met a wonderful young doctor, William Henry King. They were married in 1967. She dedicated herself to raising their three sons, Wilbur, William and Richard in Clear Lake City, Texas.
Rose embraced being a full time mother. She was an active supporter of her children’s education and activities. In addition to raising her family, she worked in many community service organizations including the Beta Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Gulf Coast Apollo Chapter (TX) of The Links, Incorporated. She volunteered as a worker with absentee voting in Harris County. Rose was a long time member of University Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in numerous programs.
She loved to play games including Backgammon, Poker and hosting a bridge group. She loved to sew and made doll dresses. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with friends and family.
She is survived by her three sons: Wilbur Eugene King, William Samuel King, Richard Daniel King, MD, PhD and his wife Elicia Williams-King, MD. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Ariel, Jordan, Alexis, Stephanie and many beloved family members. Her parents Rose and Reuben Thompson and her husband, William Henry King, MD, precede her in death.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598, on Friday, May 13, 2016, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The celebration of Rose's life will be held at University Baptist Church, 16106 Middlebrook Drive, Houston, Texas 77059, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. The interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
