

Sarah Lidia Garcia Stockwell, 92, passed away March 31, 2013 in Baytown, Texas. Sarah was born December 2, 1920 in Houston, Texas and was a long-time resident of La Porte. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Braulio Escamilla Garcia and Juana Alanis Garcia, her husband, William King Stockwell, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. She attended Sam Houston High School and graduated with honors in 1938. Sarah began her early business career during high school vacuuming and repairing rugs at Persian Rug Company -- for 5 cents an hour. During this time she was introduced to book keeping where she found her passion for accounting. However, as WWII broke out Sarah found a strong need to do her part by selling War Bonds at Brown Shipyard in Houston. As the war ended she began her accounting career at John G. Manison Public Accountant in Houston. Career high lights included Service Corporation International and later retiring from Howard Hughes' Summa Corporation in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a Senior Corporate Tax Accountant.
A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she treasured the time she spent with family. Sarah is survived by her brother Thomas Garson, daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Ronnie Cox of Huffman, TX; her son and daughter-in-law, Colonel Harmon A. and Chris Stockwell, USMC (Ret) of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren Dwayne and wife Rosa Johnson of La Porte, TX; Todd and wife Stefanie Johnson of Katy, TX and her great grandchildren; Brittany, Morgan, and Marc Johnson and numerous extended family members.
