I just came across these pictures from one of our many cruises
I’m trying really hard to understand why your not here with me but it’s so hard.

There are many fond memories shared with my brother Shelby.  As young brothers, we played together enjoying many activities that brothers would participate doing.  From dodging the mosquito spray truck as it drove past our screened in porch on Susan Street in Freeway Manor, riding our bicycles to A&P food store to sell the soda pop bottles we collected on Bryant Street…and quickly spending our money at Ben Franklin Five and Ten where you could buy anything a young boy would want, from a sling shot to a baby alligator.  Yes, they sold baby alligators back in those days.  Most of our younger days was on Bryant Steet in the Easthaven area of southeast Houston.  We had a wood frame house on half an acre, mainly for our dad to fulfill his vision of buying and restoring pianos.  Dad’s very skilled choice of trade.  Although it was only a half acre, there was plenty of room to have chickens.  Dad wound wind-up and remove a chicken’s head and Shelby, Stanley and me would chase down the headless chickens so mom could have bounty for our Sunday chicken dinner.  One of these memorable activities on Bryant Street was to play-out winning a pretend battle, playing like soldiers in a fierce battle on Bryant Street.  We built our weapon of choice from scrap wood that consisted of a 2”x 2” piece of wood about 12-15 inches long, along with attached handles and a make believe trigger.  We would chase down and hide behind the various structures on the property winning battle after battle.  I am certain this childhood activity is what qualified and prompted Shelby to become the great  United States Marine he became. And a great Marine he was!  I will forever miss my brother Shelby, but equally forever remember the times we spent together in this life just simply being like a marine,,,being brothers.  Love you Shelby and will forever remember our times of being brothers.
