Shirley Gail McDowell Cox

Shirley Gail Cox, 74, of Houston, Texas passed away Friday, July 5, 2013. She was born October 4, 1938 in East Spencer, North Carolina. Gail graduated 2nd in her class from East Spencer High School and attended Lee College in Baytown, Texas.

She established a career in banking where she worked for over 50 years. In that time she worked and managed accounts for several banks in the Houston area. She retired in April after working several years for Pearland State Bank.

Gail was a past matron and member of South Houston order of the Eastern Star for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist of Pasadena, Texas. Gail had a passion for sports; she loved watching all types, especially baseball and basketball.

She is survived by her brother Patrick Glen McDowell Sr., sister, Blanche Vaden of Chattanooga, Tennessee, brother, William Eugene McDowell, brother and sister-in-law, Robert H. and Billie McDowell, all of Rock Hill, South Carolina, brother and sister-in-law, J. Mack and Billie McDowell of Pasadena, Texas, sister, Patsy Sides of Salisbury, North Carolina and sister, Carol M. Smith of Pasadena, Texas. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5pm-8pm, Friday, July 12, 2013, at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
