Sydney Arnold Bradshaw or Big Daddy as he was lovingly called by his family was born in Guyana, South America on January 5, 1926. He was the fourth of four children born to the late George and Hilda Bradshaw and preceded in death by his siblings Nora, Lloyd, Kathy, son Sydney Ian and grandson Stephen.
Sydney and Frances Veronica De Mendonca were married on June 29, 1949. A union of 66 years produced three children, Colin Arnold, Sydney Ian (deceased), and Frances Alison.
Sydney worked as an accountant at the Guyana Marketing Division until he, his children, and mother-in-law, Frances Steinbergen emigrated to the United States in December 1964 to join his wife Veronica who preceded them in their U.S. migration. Sydney joined the Chase Manhattan Bank Accounting Department and worked there until his retirement.
Big Daddy will be remembered as a kind, mild, soft spoken and loving individual by his wife, children, and grandchildren. These qualities extended beyond his family members. He was a diplomat and peacemaker among his friends. When Sydney was present, good times and good association prevailed. His favorite table game was Dominoes. He was one of the founders of the Spoilers Domino Club, a group of intimate friends that enjoyed local and international domino competitions.
Tears of Sydney's passing will give way to smiles as we bring to mind the legacy of good memories and wisdom that he shared by telling us "every problem has a solution—just search for it".
Sydney will be fondly remembered by his wife Veronica, children Colin Bradshaw (Gwendolyn) and Alison Pree (Curtis); grandchildren Nicole Tiest, Angela, Michael, Raymond, Henry, Sean, Kenneth, Kameron, Aliya; great-grands Dieszly, Lillian, Diliaha, Draiden, Zeke, Zoë, Devon, Donavon, and Aiden as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and all of you wonderful friends and well wishers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. for a Memorial Service in the Chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home.
