It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vinton Lloyd Hudson on July 13, 2025, at the age of 83. Vinton was born on October 10, 1941 on the island of Jamaica, West Indies. As the eldest of eight children, he attended his local Seventh Day Adventist school and church with his family faithfully.
While working and training as a nurse at Bellevue Hospital, Vinton met Evadney Miller in Kingston, Jamaica in March 1963. The couple fell in love and wed on August 10, 1966 at St. James Anglican Church in Kingston. They would go on to have three children.
Vinton’s life was a testament to his work ethic and dedication to caring for others. His ambitions in medicine led him and his wife to leave their homeland of Jamaica and relocate to the United States where he would continue his education in nursing in 1967. In the early 1970s, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Nursing. UTMB employed him as a registered nurse. He was later promoted to work in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital (TDCJ) where he cared for inmates. When called on his days off, he would fervorously go to work always
ensuring adequate coverage of staff. After working many long hours serving the community as a caretaker, coming home to attend to his children was an honor. He retired in 1999, but he went back to work to continue his calling the following year. He ultimately had a very successful and fulfilling career for over 40 years.
In his pastime, he enjoyed poetry, reading, playing dominoes, watching Westerns, and going on cruises with his wife. He also loved spending quality time with his family and friends which resulted in hours of jokes and laughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, three children, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers and sisters, as well as many other relatives and extended family.
He was an exceptional husband, father, brother, uncle, and a highly respected colleague and caretaker to many. He will truly be missed.
