Edwina Wright

Edwina C. Wright, 89, of Duluth, formerly of North Truro, Massachusetts, died on Thursday, May 7th at Solvay Hospice House. She was born on October 8th 1925 in Provincetown, Massachusetts to Frank A. and Lucy B. (Small) Crawley. Edwina was one of three sisters growing up in P-Town. She had a love for books and did well in school which led her to the American International College in Springfield MA. She graduated from there in 1946 with a degree in Art History. Following marriage in November 1946, she raised her two sons and extended family members on the Cape; and after remarrying was living in Duluth MN from 1963-1971. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught remedial math and reading at Truro Central School in North Truro, MA from 1972 to her retirement in 1987. Edwina continued her love of education by tutoring adult learners, acquiring new literature genres to read, writing in her journal every day, meticulously crafting handwritten letters to many friends, former students and acquaintances around the world, and attending symphony and opera performances. She loved gardening and puttering in her yard of oak and pine trees on Highland Road.

Edwina was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Richard A. Tarvers and Lawrence S. Wright, her siblings, Zana Marguerite Phillips and Loretta B. Loring.

She is survived by sons, Anthony C. (Mary Lou) Tarvers, of Duluth, MN and Richard C. (Tracy) Tarvers, of Mobile, Alabama; grandson, Brandon A. (Becky) Tarvers; and their children, Blais and Breckon, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Carolyn E. Tarvers Blais; and her sons, Liam and Logan, of Proctor MN, with whom Edwina thoroughly enjoyed having Cheezits and juice boxes at her assisted living apartment. Edwina is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. Surviving step-grandchildren- Brittany Angelle of Mobile, AL, William Lawson of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Matthew Lawson of Rock Hill, SC.

Edwina loved Cape Cod and her ancestry of the early family settling Truro in 1700’s; establishing Ocean Farm, the Highland House and Highland Light (Cape Cod Light). She worked at the Truro Historical Museum after her retirement and enjoyed showing visitors the many artifacts of early settlers to that area on the cape.

A memorial visitation will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home 340 Main St, Wellfleet MA Sunday, August 2, 2015 from 12:30-2:00 PM, followed by a Graveside Service at Old North Cemetery, Route 6, Truro MA 3:30pm Sunday August 2, 2015.
