Annie McLellan Kerr passed away on August 29, 2021, at the age of 89. Annie was also known as Nancy to family and close friends. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 19, 1932. Annie was the oldest child in her family with three brothers, Sam, Bobby and Jimmy, and one sister, Ellen. She helped raise her younger siblings after both of her parents had passed by the time she was 18. After her siblings were grown, she immigrated to Canada in 1959.
After arriving in Canada by boat, Annie settled in Toronto where she enjoyed going to dances with her sister Ellen who had also immigrated to Canada and friends she met through work. Through these social events, she met her future husband, Mark. Annie and Mark moved to West Hill in Scarborough in 1975 where they raised their two children.
Annie held many different jobs throughout her life, including as a sewing machine operator, working at a Corning Ware factory, and at a hospital. Her longest job was over 15 years as a cleaner at a public school in Scarborough.
Annie enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, and going for walks with her husband at Rouge Beach Park, Guild Inn Park and the Ajax waterfront. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her granddaughters.
Annie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mark and Emily, daughter-in-law Christine, granddaughters Kathleen and Hannah, and extended family overseas.
Almost everyone that met Annie commented on her toughness. While she certainly was a strong person, it was through her sweet and caring nature that her strength came through most fiercely.
Annie's family wish to thank the nurses at Michael Garon Hospital for their dedicated care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family will be having a private service to celebrate Annie’s life.
