Bill was born in Valletta, Malta, on October 13th, 1943, to Mary Anne and Charles O'Neill. He and his siblings Rose, Albert, and Louise spent their early years in Malta, and the family later moved to England. In Bill's teenage years, he found a love for drumming and joined a cover band. His sense of adventure was developed on expeditions with the Boy's Club in England. He would go on to take his machinist apprenticeship in Scotland, living there for 2 years. After completing his apprenticeship, Bill came to Canada and carved out his career building, installing and selling printing presses for various companies including Crabtree Vickers, the Toronto Telegram and the Toronto Star. Bill then had a long career at the Toronto Sun, running presses as a Mechanical Lead and later promoted to Facilities Manager. He enjoyed his retirement for the last 20 years, after leaving Equifax Canada.
Bill met his lifelong love, Suanne at the Avenue Road Dance Hall. Suanne and Bill married November 9th, 1968, and started a family in Toronto with their first child, Jennifer. They then moved to West Hill and had their other two children, Andrea and Colin. Family time was very important to Bill. Whether it was a great family vacation, big dinners around the dining room table or family game nights, Bill enjoyed every minute of time together.
Bill was involved in the Scarborough Camera Club, West Rouge Thunderbirds Soccer Club, and the Scarborough Golf and Country Club. His hobbies over the years ranged from photography, stained glass, golf, attending theatre performances, traveling, and being the first to volunteer to chauffeur around children and grandkids. No matter the activity, Bill made lifelong friends.
Bill will live on within the memories of his wife Suanne, children Jennifer, Andrea, Colin, his daughter-in-law Lauren, his sister Louise, his beloved grandkids Connor, Rebecca, Ethan and Teagan. As well as his extended family, nieces, nephews, and Bill’s valued friends.
Bill had this quote displayed over his home office desk: “What’s the point of pleasure if you have no one to share it with?”
