It is with sadness that the family announces that Eleanor has passed away on January 23, 2017 in her 80th year. . Beloved wife of Douglas for 55 years. Much loved mother of Stephen (deceased), David (Valerie), Robert, Darren (Linda). Loving Grandmother of Brooke, Justin, Katie, Melissa, and Samantha.
Eli as she was known had many interests, in particular singing. She once appeared on the TV show Hee Haw with her sister Marlene and friend Grace singing some lovely songs. Eleanor had a deep believe in God and attended several churches over the years, singing in many choirs. She was also an accomplished piano and organ player.
Eleanor was very proud to be a Grandma, and very much enjoyed her five grandchildren up at the boat or trailer…some of the best times of her life was spending time with the grandchildren.
Eleanor raised a family of four boys, and was always there for her children. She often got sent up to the master bedroom to watch TV on the black and white, as the five males in the house dominated the coloured TV for sporting events in the basement.
Eli had a tremendous career working for the City of Scarborough for 24 years in the tax and permits departments. Her colleagues at work said she never “stopped smiling” for her entire career and was the most pleasant person to work with. She remained smiling throughout her 79 years, which was the trademark of Eli.
Eli enjoyed arts and crafts and often enjoyed this with her grandchildren. She was also an avid bowler in her early years, while raising the children. Eli enjoyed many of her long boating and trailer trips with Doug, and also enjoyed the Caribbean. Eli had a wonderful marriage to Doug and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by our family.
