Helen Joan Boland, passed away peacefully with her loving son by her side, after a valiant battle with COPD, on March 11, 2018. Born on May 12, 1939 to William and Violet Martin in Rouge Hills, Helen rejoins her loving Parents, the love of her life, her husband Frank, her father and mother in law Joe and Nell, her brothers in law Joey, Jimmy, Jackie, Billy & Bob, her niece Karen & many other loved ones who have passed on before her. Helen said herself she knew they would all be waiting with a deck of cards ready to play Euchre.
Helen will be deeply missed by her son Brady, her daughter-in-law Christine. Her grandchildren Spencer, Emmett, Kayleigh and Henry are heartbroken. Having lived with their grandmother for almost eight years, she was a huge part of their lives. Survived by her sisters Shirley & Corinne (David) and sisters in law Donna & Eleanor (Gary). She loved her nephews Greg, Bill, Darryl, Paul & Michael & her niece Dawn. A close knit extended family blessed her with so many more people in her life, and she loved them dearly.
Helen loved her job at the Toronto District School Board working with children for many years. Helen also adored her leisure time at the trailer. It brought her many summers of joy and a lifetime of memories shared with the Pigeon Lake Trailer Park family. Her favourite times were when it was kids weekend, even though she always got soaked filling water balloons or Thanksgiving/Halloween, when she would don her Halloween hat and sweater and be overjoyed with all the kids dressed up in costume. There were always Saturday nights at bingo, countless campfires and she never missed a long weekend Sunday night dance.
Helen love to sit with Brady her son and watch the Leafs play. As her Grandsons Spencer and Emmett grew older, she was filled with joy when they would sit down and ask what the score was. When her Grandson Henry showed an interest in playing hockey she was ecstatic and gave him all the tips and tricks each game until he got his first goal. Kayleigh, her Granddaughter, was her sweetheart and Grandma always remarked “Don’t worry about her, not only is she growing up with three brothers, she’s a Boland!”
Helen loved to go to the casino with her in law Colleen, even though Dennis had to drive them.
Helen will be missed for her wit, her sense of humour, her love for card games, Sunday viewings of Coronation Street & a good cup of tea paired with a butter tart or some toasted raisin bread. We will remember the fact that she made our lives more enjoyable by being around, she always wanted the best for us, never wanted us to fuss over her and always put our happiness ahead of hers.
In her favourite book, that she made sure each grandchild got their own copy of, it reads:
"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always.
As long as I'm living,
My Mommy You'll be."
We Love You Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
