Born August 17th, 1943 in the heart of the Philippines in Santa Cruz, Laguna, Marcos is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Julita, as well as his six children: Mariquita (Waldo), Joselito (Beverly), Marcylita, Danilo (Christine), Rizal, and Marcosa (Salim). He also joins his son, Rafael, who preceded him (d.1990). He was the beloved Tatay to his grandchildren Christopher (Ilse), Quincy, Rhys, Jacob, Jolie, Jazre, Jya, Maelyne, Davan, Jonah, Nina, Isayah, Kealani, Myles, Tiffany, and Fares; as well as Kaius, who is his one and only favourite apo sa tuhod. He is also survived by his siblings, Freddie and Aurora and an abundance of nieces and nephews back in the Philippines. He will be lovingly remembered by many family and friends.
He dedicated several years of service to the US Navy, but was more of a lover than a fighter and kept things close to his heart. For many years, he worked in electrical at Estee Lauder, but his absolute love was tinkering on cars and was known as the “Filipino MacGyver”. He was an entrepreneur at heart and was an aspiring craftsman at inventions. He shared his love for travel or seeking a spot by the water to cast his next bait with his children only to teach them the worldly joys of life.
Marcos was a man of few words, yet had the biggest heart and a zest for life. At every celebration, he warmed the room by simply being there, hugging us with a comfortable presence. He had a hearty laugh and loved Coca-Cola. The grandchildren would make up stories about why the nail on his thumb was always longer than the others. He loved Elvis Presley, and had the nostalgic smell of car oil and a fresh pack of Marlboros. Marcos always made his beautiful wife laugh and loved her deeply, by building whatever she wanted to create their loving home. Family was always the closest to his heart and persistently ingrained that priority for all his children. His greatest trait and fondest memories are etched by years of welcoming family, friends and strangers alike, with an “open door policy” and outstretched arms - never with a timeline. His legacy of love and life lives on in each and every member of his family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those at SHN - Centenary Hospital, Cardiology 4W, especially Dr. Chang (Cardiology), Dr. Xu (Palliative Care), and the nursing angels who cared for him in his last days - Beth, Maureen and Meghan. Godspeed, Dad and Tatay. You are deeply missed.
We’ll remember you singing “I did it my way” - Frank Sinatra - another of his favourite vocalists.
