Maria Christatina Fernandes

Known by her grandchildren as MAMA and by her great grand children as GGM. It is with much sorrow that we announce that Maria Christatina Fernandes passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Sunnybrooke Hospital in Toronto, on Thursday March 30th 2023.

Wife of (Late) Martin Fernandes. She will be greatly missed and remembered by her loving children Clare Jackson, Dolorosa DeSouza (Clifford DeSouza), Francisco Fernandes. Grandchildren: Beula, Rochelle (Dalmatius) and Darlene. Great Grandchildren: Skylar and Vierra.

Christatina was an angel of positivity, warmth and strength to her family. Her smile lit up our hearts. She was born in GOA, India and moved to Karachi, Pakistan when she married her husband Martin. She was a kind and loyal friend to many and was very generous, always willing to give.

She dedicated her best work ever as a mother and homemaker (she also excelled at sewing and cooking). She loved her family very much and raised not only her children but also her grandchildren.

She loved God and her faith for God and His Angels and Saints never waivered. She would wake up at 3AM daily to say her hour long prayers and begin her cooking which she was known for. She would make sure her grandchildren ate breakfast before dropping them off to school. She was known by many as being strict and stubborn. She emigrated to Canada in 2002 and was cared for by her eldest daughter Clare till the end. Christatina loved Canada and wanted to travel as much as she could.

Although Christatina's last 5 months were challenging, she faced her struggles with courage and grace.
