Mary McKay

Mary will be dearly and forever missed by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert, and by her children Mark, Laura (Eric), and Eileen (Todd). She was predeceased by her beloved son, David. Mary was a devoted Nana to Alex (Shayla), Sigrid, Pippi, Declan, Jojo, Annie, and Clair; and a proud GiGi to Billy and David.

Born to James and Annie Coleman, Mary was raised in Glasgow alongside her five siblings, surviving the bombing of her school during the Second World War. Blessed with a spirit of adventure, she later moved to Michigan and then to Canada in her early twenties. Alongside raising her family, Mary worked in a variety of roles, all tied together by a central passion: serving charitable organizations, living true to her Catholic faith and giving back to her community.

Mary will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, and compassion, as well as her sharp humor and gift as a storyteller. She remained vibrant and active throughout her life - taking language classes at the local high school, exploring community center art classes, along with classes in tai chi, line dancing, and ballroom dancing. Mary was a sharp bridge and bid euchre player enjoying the laughter and camaraderie that came along with the many afternoons of card playing. Mary also played golf and tennis and maintained deep, lasting friendships long after her playing days were over.

Mary’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Scarborough Golf and Country Club (321 Scarborough Golf Club Rd., Scarborough) on Sunday, August 30th, starting at 12:00 p.m.
