My funny and sweet uncle Patrick, we will miss you… Thank you so much to auntie Liz and you and kids for taking me in when I needed you most… To auntie Elizabeth, Clint, Tracy and Ingrid, my deepest condolences… So sorry… What a wonderful man…Wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and just human being! Rest in peace, my dear uncle Patrick and I know I will see you again…

My heart has been breaking.

Going bowling at 2:00 AM on the morning in Toronto… Playing golf… weekend visit from Kingsway College…
What a great Uncle! What a great friend!
I remember praying together over the phone when you were sick.

Our deepest condolences to the entire Kleyn family. 
Pat was such a lovely man always smiling even when things were tough. 
I've known him for almost 40 years being best friends with Ingrid since 11 years old. 
Even until recently he always reminded us of the time he hung me upside down as a kid and shook all change out of my pockets.  
We are forever grateful for the special wedding gift he gave us... beautiful doves released on our wedding day. 
We will miss you Pat. Rest in peace.

One of his last visits to Cape Town is a day I remember like it was yesterday. It was extremely hot, and he insisted on going to the beach — lol. There was a reason for that… hahaha.

This photo was taken at Surfers Corner in Muizenberg. All I remember is that the water was ice cold, yet he didn’t mind at all. He was always smiling.

My memories of Uncle Pat are filled with fun and laughter. He was always up for a prank or up for trying something a little different—often things the older folk wouldn’t dare to try. He had a youthful spirit that made every moment lighter. (He especially loved ripping off my sister Allison) 

One of my last conversations with him was especially meaningful. He reminded me of a memory from the 1980s, when I was still a child and they had come to visit. I used to ask for chocolates, chips, and sweets—except I pronounced them as “shocolate, ships, and fiets.” It’s a memory he said he would never forget, and one I will now treasure even more.

I will always remember Uncle Pat as a young, fit, strong man—and just as importantly, a man deeply in love with my Aunty Elizabeth. Through the way he loved her, he showed me from a young age that true love is real and something to be cherished.

I have so many fond memories of him—enough to write a short novel. When we visited Canada, he taught me about Pigeon racing and how to rear pigeons, how to care for them properly, and even took us on what felt like a four-hour drive to release them so they could be trained for racing. I also remember him taking me for my very first Egg McMuffin that day—long before McDonald’s existed in South Africa.

I will miss our random chats during the bi-weekly check-ins Aunty Liz and I have. I can still hear his voice in the background shouting for chocolates, chips and sweeties. I will miss his voice. But most of all, I will carry his memories with me forever.

Rest well, Uncle Pat. You were truly a superstar.

I was lucky enough to know Mr Kleyn and the Kleyn family from the youngest age, being such close friends with his amazing daughter, Ingrid.  To have such a kind, caring and loving adult in your life, while growing up, is such a blessing!!! I thought he was such an amazingly cool person in Agincourt, and then he went and got pigeons in West Hill, making him the “coolest friend dad “ ever! Ingrid and the Kleyn family, my sincerest condolences for your loss. I feel so absolutely honoured and blessed  to have known Mr Kleyn and your entire family, growing up. You all have left a lasting impact, and are in my heat forever. Sending love and sympathy.

To auntie Elizabeth and the family, Iwill always cherish the memories that I have of uncle Patrick, those from when I was very young till the last time I saw you guy's off at the airport when one of auntie Elizabeth 's nieces mistook me for him and he dryly stated that her uncle was the handsome one, our deepest heartfelt condolences to you aunt Elizabeth and the family Clint, Ingrid and Tracy and all the grandkids I will always remember him with the fondest of memories that we had made throughout our lives, Hamba Gashle uncl Pat till we meet again when we get called back home.

Rest in peace Pat, I’ve had great memories with you when we worked at thorn and had our Christmas parties. I will always remember you for your kindness, you will be missed by all your loving family and friends❤️🙏🏻. Xoxoxo

I met Mr. & Mrs. Kleyn through their eldest daughter, Tracy, of whom I was best friends with through highschool.  I have many memories of his treasured stories of South Africa, his fondness for his pigeon racing, and especially his pride for his family. My most cherished memories include his outward expressions of love and romance for Mrs. Kleyn. He would often come up behind her - on any given day -  in the kitchen to wrap his arms around her, kiss her on the neck or cheek or lips, or take her for a little twirl and dip, away from the dishes or food she was preparing.  I had never witnessed that type of rare, true, affection before, nor till this day.  It still makes my heart smile just to think of it.

Mr. Kleyn was a fine example of a genuinely good, kind, hardworking, loving, compassionate, family man who was strong in his faith. I have no doubt he has been warmly welcomed into Heaven by other friends and loved ones, and especially our Lord. Rest easy, Mr. Kleyn. Fly free. Until we meet again.

Working alongside Pat, Liz and Ingrid was always an adventure. Pat kept us entertained with stories of South Africa where I pictured grapefruits growing the size of beach balls - juicier than anything you could imagine. We also heard about the adventures of his pigeons - I believe there was an escape or two from the coop. What shone through most of all was the love he had for Liz and the kids, and everyone he met. He always made time to lend me an ear and his warmth and guidance got me through some tough times. <3

We're send our love and prayers to Aunty Elizabeth and all the family.  Uncle Patrick's loss will be deeply felt by myself, my sister Sharon, and my brother Clive - who was especially close to his uncle.  Patrick was a real comfort and father figure to us, when our own father passed away when we were young children.  I know my mom, Maude learned on him for advice and support during that hard time.  We love you, Uncle Patrick and are looking forward to our eternal reunion, one day.  Arlene, Steve and family
