It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Stuart Taylor, beloved husband, father and grandfather. He passed peacefully with family at North Bay Regional Heath Centre on Sunday, December 3rd at the age of 90. Ron was born in Toronto on April 5th, 1933. As an apprentice teacher in Belleville, Ontario, Ron met his sweetheart, Jean Edwards. They were wed on July 6th, 1957 and had the great fortune of spending 67 years together prior to his passing. Together in West Hill, they raised three sons: Stuart, Scott, and Andrew. Ron later became the proud Grandad to Lilian, Alexander, Louisa and Iona.
Ron was a generous and devoted family man and teacher. He completed his teaching degrees through York University and the University of Toronto. Teaching with the Toronto Board of Education for over 35 years, he was passionate about helping children with disabilities. Starting out as a new teacher, he taught swimming lessons for blind children. This developed into a lifelong career teaching and counselling students with hearing disabilities. He gave freely of his time to volunteer pursuits, including the 6th West Hill Boy Scout troop for many years. During his 67 years as a parishioner at St. Margaret’s Church, he was an usher, treasurer and played a vital role in coordinating the planning and construction of St. Margaret’s Community Homes.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours gardening and photographing flowers. He loved to tinker, enjoyed wood-working, and built wooden toys for his grandchildren. He enjoyed travel and road trips and there wasn’t a historical plaque he would not stop to read. His stories and poems always entertained. His generosity and kind, gentle nature improved the lives of everyone he encountered. For those that had the joy of having him in their lives, he will be profoundly missed.
Services and burial will take place at St. Margaret’s in the Pines Church (4130 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough) on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, followed by funeral and graveside services commencing at 2:00pm. A light reception to take place afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favourite charity.
