We extend sincere condolences to Bill's wife, Clara, and to all the Hemmings family, from the Peterborough Branch of St. John Ambulance.  Bill was a true gentleman, and, on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Scott's Plains, a tremendous supporter of our charity's life-saving training programmes for youth in the Peterborough community. Through the financial support from the Kiwanis Club of Scott's Plains, our local charity was able to teach, on an annual basis, essential life-saving skills to 10, 000 Peterborough school children. Always friendly, courteous, helpful, and so pleasant in all our meetings with him, Bill was an invaluable representative of the Kiwanis Club, in all its worthy activities.

We will miss Bill, as will so many other charities, organizations, family and friends, but we will treasure our fond memories of knowing him personally.

I remember fondly learning many career & life lessons from Bill when I served along side him at College Park Courts, back in the ‘80’s. Shoulder 💪🏼 presses with chairs was our favourite past time, during down time. I’ll always remember his spirited approach to life. R.I.P. Bill ❤️

To the Hemmings family. I started my career with the Toronto Police in 1972. Bill was a constable in the radio room and was later promoted to a Sergeant. 
Bill was a very likable person.  Bill always had a great outlook on life.  Bill had many stories from his time on the road and he would love to sit and chat about those times. 
I'm so glad that Bill had such a full life. We lost touch after he retired, then I moved away after I retired. 
Please accept my condolences on Bill's passing. 
He was a terrific guy and was always there to help us new people out. 

The Hemmings, Boltons, Harleys and Richardsons have known each other intimately for so many years, mainly due to the efforts of our venerable matriarchs & event planners: Beth, Lily, Mabel and Marg, who kept this group together for many many fun meals and gatherings over the years. 

I will always especially remember our summer fun times in Muskoka, where Bill, ever the affable gentle giant, always was there with a ready smile, a clever remark and a willingness to help and encourage others. 

His gentle manner, gregarious nature, strength, and kind spirit will be cherished forever by all of who have known him.


Cheryl and I are saddened to hear the passing of Bill. He was a man we both looked up to and respected. I always enjoyed the times we would talk and was fascinated by his stories. I believe he lived a full and happy life surrounded by a loving wife, beautiful children and grand children.

William ( to us, Bill) Hemmings was a dynamic member of the Kiwanis Club of Scott's Plains when he lived in Peterborough. 

He was one of the Key members who participated in every level of community service our club was involved. He led the way on many of our youth service projects as chair of Youth Services committee. He was particularly passionate of the financial support we provided St John's Ambulance (August 2nd we continued that support with a donation of $1,000.00 for the St John's Youth Training Program). 

Bill believed in the Kiwanis Club of Scott's Plains. He was at each meeting even at our lowest ebb. The Spirit of service to the benefit of youth in our community came through during the many discussions he participated during the evolution of our club. 

He was instantly missed when he and his wife moved to be closer to family. Today, to those of us that knew Bill, he will be fondly remember as a true Kiwanis friend.

Sorry to hear that Bill has passed away. We had many great memories of Bill' 
he was a a great Bridge partner. And we missed him at  Kiwanis, he always had

To my cousin's Cathy, Bruce and Susan, I am so sorry for your loss.  And Aunt Clara, I don't even have words to express to you how badly I feel. Uncle Bill was always so kind and loving to me.  We were so lucky to have known him. My heart is breaking for all of you.

Mom (Marguerite) would often regale us with stories of her 'adopted' brothers, and of growing up together... their shenanigans would leave us in stitches.

I think of Bill as a gentle giant, with a ready smile and a quick joke, to put everyone at ease. Bill always inquired about what was going on in your life, and listened with genuine interest. He was someone to admire and aspire to when dealing with others.

Dear Mrs. Hemmings, Sue, Bruce, and Cathy,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Hemmings. He was a huge presence in my high school years, when I spent so much time with Sue, at your house on Treverton. I'll never forget his big laugh, constant smile, and how he looked after us one night in particular, when a few uninvited guests crashed our party. He was a great man.
