Ann Motzkin, 90, of Mangrove Bay, Jupiter, FL passed peacefully on June 9, 2021. She was born on November 15, 1930 in New York City. Ann was an only child who enjoyed her summers at Camp Odeta as a camper and eventually as a waterfront counselor. Ann received a Master’s degree in Education from Syracuse University (1952). Shortly thereafter, she met her loving husband, Alvin Motzkin, on a blind date arranged by close mutual friends. After an intense courtship, they married and moved to Scarsdale, NY where they had their three children. In 1957 they moved to Kingston, NY where they raised their family. In 1978 they bought a lake-house in Pawling, NY where they spent summers. Upon Alvin’s retirement in 1987 from KOSCO, they moved to the Frenchman’s Creek community in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where they could easily access the Inland Waterway and socialize frequently.
Bridge was Ann’s life’s passion. She was a skilled master bridge player and a highly sought after partner. She and her husband were avid boaters and cruisers, inspired by Ann’s tremendous love of travel and enjoyment of swimming and boating. In her later years, she liked watching boats on the Waterway. Both Ann and Al were most fulfilled and happy while spending time with their children and grandchildren and their many life-long friends.
Ann was predeceased in January 2013 by her husband of 60 years, Alvin Motzkin. She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Rubinstein (Steve) and grandchildren, Brynn (Joe), Hayley (Tim), and Nolan; Son, David Motzkin (Suzy) and grandchildren, Julian (Brandi) and Chelsey (Dave); and daughter Terri Rabkin and grandchildren Dana (Aaron) and Jamie. She also is survived by three great grandchildren with more on the way.
The family expresses tremendous love and gratitude to Dinah Murphy, who spent 32 years of compassionate household support and friendship to both Alvin and Ann. Dinah was often referred to as their “favorite daughter” and indeed became a loving part of the family over these many years. We also hold tremendous appreciation for Ann's wonderful, engaged, and loving caregiver, Simona Wright, who aided her through the past eight years. She enhanced Ann’s quality of life through her love, care, and friendship. As Ann's activity organizer, she brought joy to Ann, as well as many other Mangrove Bay residents. Many thanks, also, to Rhoda and Margaret for their quality of care and companionship through the nights and weekends.
A service and interment will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10am at Star of David of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation for research.
