Bud was born in Canton, OH on January 14, 1937 to Harold A. (Hal) Broda and Margaret W. (Marge) Broda. Bud attended the Peddie School before attending Brown University and receiving his MBA from NYU. Bud had a long working career at Bank of New York, Swiss Bank, and The Council on Foreign Relations.
Bud is dearly missed, and survived by his wife Kate Kuhner, sons Fred Broda Jr (wife, Debbie), Russ Broda (wife, Cindi), and Bill Broda (wife, Rachael), as well as by six grandchildren: Fred (Buddy) Broda III, Sam Broda, Sage Broda, Deacon Broda, Kaitlin Broda, and Jack Broda. And of course his Golden Doodle, Mr. Carson. (Bud is also preceded by his Golden Retriever Captain Morgan.)
Bud had a deep, abiding faith in the Lord and was an active member of Family Church in downtown West Palm Beach. He and Kate hosted the Thursday morning Bible Study at their home for over 12 years. During this time they never missed a Thursday. Bud was also a participant in the Wednesday morning Bible Study, which was reserved for the Palm Beach Men’s Group.
Bud served as Chairman on the Palm Beach Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, where he served for over 30 years.
Growing up, Bud was active in sports, excelling in baseball and basketball. At Brown University he was a crafty lefthander starting pitcher. Bud also continued his passion for baseball as a committed Silver Slugger on Wednesday evenings in the summer at Jupiter Ballpark. Later in life Bud was renown for his association with the Palm Beach Holy Smokes group and Habaneros Cigar Store where he was a fixture.
Most importantly, Bud was known for his love of life. His ability to connect people to each other whether in business, church, the El Cid neighborhood, or just as friends. Those who passed by the home on Grenada Rd always received a friendly wave and hello from the front porch. He will be missed greatly.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Family Church, downtown West Palm Beach, 1101 S Flagler Drive, on Saturday, December 9th, from 11:00 am to noon. A reception will follow from noon to 1 pm.
A family service will be held in Canton, OH on Friday, January 19th at 2:00 pm at West Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Salvation Army of Palm Beach County, the charity Bud held closest to his heart and where he served as an Advisory Board member. His remembrances can be made to The Salvation Army at Palm Beach Branch. Or consider a donation to Bud’s church home, Family Church downtown West Palm Beach.
