Born to Saul and Jean Sherman in Montreal, Canada, Larry was raised in New York. He met his future bride, Eunice, when she was 15 and he was 17. They married four years later, in 1951, and raised their three sons in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. In 1993, they retired and moved to Florida, where they made a new life with wonderful new friends. Larry and Eunice were due to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on May 5.
After attending high school in the Bronx, Larry entered the army at the age of 17 to help rebuild Japan at the end of the Korean War. In his younger years, he sold television parts. Later he followed his older brother into the insurance industry, where he started as a debit agent, going door to door to collect the monthly payments from his clients.
Larry eventually found great satisfaction in helping people get disability income insurance and was published many times in national trade publications in this topic. Concurrent with his insurance career he pursued his passion, which was sharing his philosophy, “The Positive Side of Life,” which helped people focus on the good things and embrace every day. To that end he became a public speaker, a Reiki Master and a certified hypnotherapist, enabling him to help more people in more ways. He used to lecture on cruise ships and formed a “Positive Side of Life” club in his community. Larry was passionate about loving everyone unconditionally and making the world a better place by helping anyone he could in any way he could.
Family meant everything to Larry. He loved leading Passover seders and telling the stories of his life to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved
to write poems and play cards, and sometimes won. Whenever anyone asked Larry how he was doing, he would say “better and better.” And instead of goodbye, he would say, “Make it a great day, every day, and expect a miracle.”
Larry was predeceased by his brother, Mark Sherman; and sister, Eleanor Meister. He is survived by his sons; Jan (and Michelle) Sherman in Michigan; Paul (and Nancy) Sherman in New York; and David (and Stacie) Sherman in New Jersey; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
