2023, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born on October 28, 1955, in Washington,
D.C., and her life was a testament to love, resilience, and selfless service.
Sheryl's journey began at Vienna Elementary, and she proudly graduated from James
Madison High School in the Class of 1973. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Virginia
Tech, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1977. Sheryl was not
only an accomplished student but also a member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity.
After her graduation, she embarked on a successful career with Computer Sciences
Corporation, where she held various financial positions. Her work took her to diverse
locations, including Falls Church, VA, NASA Headquarters in Houston, TX, and Los
Angeles, CA.
Sheryl was renowned for her loving, compassionate heart, and her dedication to her family
and friends was unwavering. She lovingly cared for her parents and her dear Aunt "Mae"
during their final years. Before her time in Juno Beach, Sheryl resided for many years in the
West Palm Beach area, where she was active in her community and church, and she formed
deep friendships. As a valued member of St. Edward’s Church in Palm Beach, Sheryl served
as a Eucharistic Minister, taught youth religious classes and was a member of the Womens’
Guild. Her deep faith brought her solace, and it was in this church that she married the love
of her life, David, in her first marriage at the age of 61, in 2017.
In her leisure time, Sheryl had a passion for travel, and she explored numerous historic sites
in Europe, Central and South America. From the Normandy beaches to Verdun, from Denali
to Oberammergau, she treasured the experiences and memories she made during her
adventures.
Towards the end of her life, Sheryl endured a prolonged and painful illness, which she fought
valiantly, traveling to MD Anderson Cancer Center with her husband as her primary
caregiver. Despite extensive treatments and the best medical experts' efforts, the mutated
cancer proved relentless.
Sheryl's memory will be cherished by her loving husband, David Hurley, of Juno Beach, FL,
and her dear younger siblings: brother, Paul A. Coury (Pamela) of Centreville, VA, and
sisters, Patricia Coury Hill (Les) of Daytona Beach, FL, Joan M. Sandgren (Alan) of
Nokesville, VA, and Jean L. Beale (George) of Bristow, VA, along with numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Alphonse P. Coury, and her mother,
Dorothy Foster Coury Wilson.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023. from 5-8pm at the Quattlebaum
Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL (www.dignitymemorial.com).
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church in Palm
Beach, Florida, at 10:00am on November 11, 2023. Following the service, Sheryl will be
laid to rest at the West Point Cemetery on the grounds of the United States Military Academy
in New York.
Sheryl Anne Coury's absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all those whose
lives she touched. May she rest in peace, and may the Lord welcome her with open arms. In
lieu of flowers, Sheryl expressed a wish that donations be directed to the American Cancer
Society in her memory (donate.cancer.org).
