Alveda Cheryl Norman Ogden, 73, passed away on May 3rd, 2022, in Sandy, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was born November 18th, 1948, in Oak Creek, Colorado to Leonard Arlice Norman and Naomi Alveda Hassig.
Growing up, her family called her Cheryl. Later on she preferred to be known as Alveda. She lived in Yampa, Colorado until she was 8, then Fort Collins until she was 15, at which time her family moved to Salt Lake City. She graduated from Granger High School and attended Utah State University for one year. She volunteered as a candy striper when she was 20 years old and then worked as an aide at an assisted living facility.
Cheryl married Bart Leonard Ogden in the Manti Temple on November 22nd, 1974. For over 30 years they made their home and raised their family in their friendly Magna neighborhood. Bart passed away on August 20, 2010.
Cheryl joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 22nd, 1969 and was a faithful and devoted member of the Church from that time forward. She was active in Relief Society and served as a volunteer at the Bishop’s Storehouse in Magna. She was a friend to all and a natural and fearless missionary. She also had a special interest in family history and temple work and performed research for her own and her husband’s ancestors.
Cheryl loved the water and enjoyed swimming and diving. She had a love for animals, especially dogs, both living and ceramic. She excelled at knitting and crocheting, and friends enjoyed receiving her recommend covers and other thoughtful gifts. She loved music and played both the accordion and piano, sharing her talent at weddings, funerals, and church services. She will be sorely missed.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, Dennis Carl. She is survived by a son, Norman Patrick (Holly), a daughter, Betsy Marie Maxwell (Sean), a brother, Brett (Tina), brothers-in-law, Robert (Roxy), Lynn (Laurel), and Wayne (Carren), sisters-in-law Lola Speckart (Phil) and Joyce Petrucci (Brad), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family expresses their appreciation to the management and staff at The Wentworth at Willow Creek and to members of the Willow Creek 1st Ward for their care and kindness during her last few years. For the support and care provided by the medical staff at the Wentworth, representatives of her insurance carrier, and the hospice staff, we are also deeply grateful.
