Mom met Dad, the love of her life, they married on June 11, 1949. They were sealed in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City, May 1961. They lived in the Salt Lake Valley, where Mom was a homemaker for eleven years until she went to work for the Steiner Corporation for twenty-four years as a receptionist and bookkeeper.
When we were kids growing up, we did a lot of camping, fishing, water skiing, and traveling. Mom and Dad retired in 1983 and traveled to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. They spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed making quilts for each of their grandchildren. We all looked forward to their summer visits, where they would park their RV at each of their children’s homes.
Dad passed away in October 1997, and mom missed him dearly. Mom then sold her home in Arizona, moving to Preston, Idaho, where she had the privilege of caring for her mother. Mom crocheted afghan blankets for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren until she had to stop due to her arthritis. Mom stayed strong in her faith and enjoyed going to the temple; she dedicated many years of her life in various callings with the LDS church.
Mom moved back to Utah in 2003. She then gave her grandchildren the greatest gift – by lovingly caring for her great grandchildren in their homes for 15 years. Her family was the most important thing to her. Her incredible memory never ceased to amaze us, as she could recall even the smallest details from years past with remarkable clarity, sharing stories and facts that enriched our lives and connected us to our family’s history. She had an extraordinary gift for remembering every birthday, never missing a chance to celebrate her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by sending them a birthday card. She made sure the cards were always in the mailbox on our birthday, a heartfelt gesture that made each of us feel loved and remembered. She left a wonderful treasure trove of memories for all of us to enjoy, in her journals that she kept from 1988 to 2018.
Mom passed away at her daughter Debbie’s home on Monday, September 9th. Debbie, her two granddaughters, Jennifer and Misty and her great granddaughter, Amanda were by her side.
She was the best Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend that anyone could ask for. We know she had a beautiful reunion with our Father, DeWayne. We will miss and love her forever.
