Carl was born on June 7, 1950, in Logan, Utah, the youngest of four children of Vernon and Loretta Hansen and spent his childhood on the farmlands of Tremonton, Utah. A man of faith and dedication, he served a mission for the LDS Church in the Southwest Indian Mission. On April 18, 1974, Carl married Kathy Powell in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they shared 50 years of marriage and raised five boys: Aaron, Aric, Nathan, Andrew, and Taylor. Carl was also a proud father-in-law to Monica and grandfather to four grandchildren – Madison, Jack, Azuri, and Emery – who brought immense joy to his life.
After attending Weber State College, Carl pursued a career in public service, dedicating over 45 years to Davis County Government. His love for service extended to the LDS Church, where he fulfilled numerous callings, and the Boy Scouts of America, where his guidance left a lasting impact on many young lives.
Carl will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, a lifetime of quiet selfless service to others, and a wonderful sense of humor. His boys fondly recall his overflowing Christmas stockings, Friday pizza nights, Boy Scout camping trips, Easter egg scavenger hunts, weekend visits to the local trading card shop, and infectious love for silly movies and fart jokes.
Carl is survived by his wife, Kathy (West Valley City, Utah); his five children, Aaron (Monica) (Syracuse, Utah), Aric (New York City, New York), Nathan (Salt Lake City, Utah), Andrew (West Valley City, Utah), and Taylor (West Valley City, Utah); and his four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon Lavan and Loretta Jensen Hansen, sister and brother-in-law Joy and Richard McLaws, and brother Lowell Hansen.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carl’s life on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah. A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by funeral services from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately afterward at 1:30 p.m.
