Our sweet, loving, classy, and spunky wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ida Lou Roylance, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home on her 81st birthday—Saturday, October 4, 2025.
It was her choice, and wow, what a birthday celebration she must have had that day. Heaven got a little sweeter. It was a spiritual and glorious homecoming—one like no other! And we will be having a big birthday celebration on this side at her funeral, just as she would have wanted.
Ida Lou—who preferred simply to be called Ida—was born October 4, 1944, in Price, Utah, to Wilson Warren Anderson and Annie Amelia Albrechtsen.
The sixth of eight children (and the eleventh in their blended family), she cherished her childhood in the beautiful small town of Emery, Utah, where she made countless fond memories surrounded by family. She often spoke of those carefree days filled with hard work, laughter, and love.
Ida attended South Emery High School, where she proudly served as a cheerleader, and later East High School in Salt Lake City (1961–1962). Her profession was banking.
She married Val Spencer Florence on November 3, 1962, and together they had two children: Angie and Kelly LeRoy. They were married for 25 years before later divorcing in 1987. Val passed away on December 27, 2020.
In the fall of 1987, while going through that transition in her life, Ida placed a newspaper ad to sell some red chairs. As fate would have it, the man who called about them was Ken Roylance—a longtime family friend from years of camping, fishing, and “dune bugging” trips. The two reconnected, and the rest is history.
Ida and Ken were married on February 4, 1989, and together blended their families. Ida lovingly welcomed three more sons into her life: Danny Oneal, Darin Clifton, and Dean Alfred.
As anyone who knew her would say, Ida was one spunky, classy lady. She loved spending time with family and friends and had a heart that was endlessly kind and generous. She was always impeccably dressed—she truly looked like she’d just stepped out of Vogue magazine! Her home was immaculate, lovingly cared for from top to bottom, inside and out.
She loved going to Lake Powell where she would take her propane-powered curling iron to keep her Hollywood-style look intact. Other favorite activities included going to the cabin, taking cruises and dancing the jitterbug, which she did with ease and style.
She adored the holidays and went all out decorating her home to celebrate them. She was also a wonderful cook who made everyone feel welcome at her table.
Ida’s beautiful smile and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. Her warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She had a strong and abiding love for her Heavenly Father and felt closest to Him when she was outdoors, surrounded by family, friends, and nature’s beauty.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Carrington Court in South Jordan for their tender and loving care during this past year.
Ida is survived by her devoted husband Ken Roylance; her children and grandchildren, Alisha, Jonathan, Rosetta, Michael, Alexander, Nicole, Jade, Jordan, Brinley, Tanisha, Kaylee, and Jacob; and her siblings Gene (Cynthia) Anderson and Lavona (John) Hutchins; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson, and Annie Anderson, ten siblings, and her first husband Val S. Florence.
There will be a viewing October 8, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:45, with a family prayer 10:45 AM, funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. – 12 Noon. at the Hunter 3rd Ward Chapel, 3737 West 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah 84120. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park at 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120. A luncheon will be served back at the chapel after the graveside services.
We thank all of you for your love, kindness, and support during this tender time in our lives.
