Janice Irene Bills Genessy was born on May 8, 1943, the first child of Orley Edwin and Joy Bentley Bills (who she loved very dearly). She passed quickly and unexpectedly in her home on January 19, 2024.
If you didn’t consider Jan a dear friend, you hadn’t met her yet. She had the remarkable gift of genuinely caring about every person she crossed paths with. Whether you knew her for decades or met her only moments earlier, she was invested in you and your happiness.
Jan was a beautiful redhead, a trait she used to justify her sometimes feisty attitude. So feisty, in fact, that she took the liberty of writing her own obituary…
“It happened on January 19, 2024. I passed from this life. Between birth and death I was fortunate to be able to live a very happy life. Yes, there were a few struggles, but overall it was a very happy life.
I married Ivan Don Genessy, on May 4,1962, and we were later sealed in the Salt Lake temple on May 8, 1973. Don was the love of my life and together we raised five children:
James Don Genessy (Natalie Montez): Mr. Independent
Jennifer Lynne Genessy Bushman (Wayne Bushman): The Peacemaker
Todd Allen Genessy: The Free Spirit
Shawn Michael Genessy (Jillian Carter): The Rebellious
Kristi Dawn Genessy Bassett (Blaine Bassett): The Spoiled Brat
They in turn blessed us with 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In life, there are good things and hard things. The trick is to enjoy the good things and realize that you CAN do hard things when you have to. Then remember to thank Heavenly Father for each and every opportunity, they are learning experiences. Throughout my life my motto has become, “do what you have to do and do it to the best of your ability.”
Do not mourn or feel sad that I have passed from this life. Instead, celebrate that I was here and remember the good times that we shared, knowing that we will see each other again.
In lieu of flowers, please use those funds to celebrate someone you love who is still with you. Surprise them with flowers, take them out for a treat, or just give them a call or a hug in my honor. One never knows from day to day if they or a loved one will still be here tomorrow. So tell those you love how much you love them and treat everyone kindly.
