

Jerry Cannell, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 7, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born on January 16, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ivan and Grace Cannell. Jerry was the third of eight children. His adventurous spirit led him to join the US Army at the young age of 17, where he served with honor and dedication. Jerry led a remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, camaraderie, and cherished memories.
On September 15, 1974, Jerry found his life’s true partner in Deanne Whitaker, and they began a journey of love and companionship that lasted a lifetime. Their bond was unbreakable, and they shared countless moments of joy and support throughout their years together.
Beyond his roles as a devoted husband, brother, and uncle, Jerry had a special relationship with his great nephew, Jeremy Erkkila, who was not just a relative, but also his best friend. He loved spending time with Jeremy, and his wife, Jeni. He cherished moments of pampering, such as getting pedicures and enjoying delightful lunches together.
Jerry had a unique taste for life and indulged in small pleasures that brought him joy. He was known for his sense of humor, and his laughter could light up any room. He had many memorable escapades, including painting his outhouse in Rabbit Gulch while in the buff.
Jerry is survived by his sister and three brothers, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit in their hearts. His niece, Robyn, and her husband, Ray Erkkila, were very important in Jerry’s life, ensuring the highest level of loving care. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend, Pat Larsen. His departure has left an irreplaceable void in their lives.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Geitz Street neighbors, A-Plus Hospice, and the staff at Sagewood Nursing Home, especially Jodi and Erin, for their unwavering help, support, and friendship over the years.
Jerry Cannell touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love, He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and the countless memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.
There will be a party held in his honor on August 26 from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm at Stonebridge Golf Club, 4415 Links Drive, West Valley City, Utah
