Joni was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 15, 1963 to her loving parents, Jack Alex and Sherie Freer Brown. Despite lifelong health challenges, she had the personal strength and the support of those around her to help her overcome them. Joni was a very social person and enjoyed participating in drill team, choir, and cheerleading at Granger High School. It was there she met Roger Brook Barnson. They later married and had two children, Roger Cody and Casey Jack.
Joni attended Salt Lake Comunity College where she earned an associate degree in Secretarial Science. She was employed by Boyer Company, Zions Bank, and held other jobs outside the secretarial field. She enjoyed playing the piano from an early age and later learned to play the organ. She used her musical talents on many occasions, most recently playing the organ for her ward, whom she dearly loved. Joni adored her family and always looked forward to the many family gatherings and camping trips. She had a tender heart and was always willing to help those around her. She held a special place in her heart for those less fortunate. To these individuals she expressed her sincere concern and unconditional love and gave them hope and encouragement.
