Howard Leslie Dawes

In the early morning hours of May, the 11th, “Grandpa Les” was reunited with his loving parents and father in heaven. He passed away in the arms of his loving & devoted wife, Patti Ann Dawes.

Born on June 30th, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Howard Marvin and Shirley Ann Peterson Dawes. Being the eldest of 6 siblings, Les had a big role to play in his family and he filled that role completely. Les graduated from Granger High School in 1971 where he joined the National Guard Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi and honorably served for six years. Les married his high school sweetheart Patti Ann Grant on May 25th, 1972; later, Les became a loving father to two kids Mindy Dawes, and John (Elizabeth) Dawes.

Early in his career as a manufacturing engineer Les worked for Sperry Univac where the family relocated to Manti, Utah for Six years. He also worked for Iomega, Unisys and Control 4 and during this time served as the Chapter President of SMTA (Surface Mount Technology Association).

Les enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was camping, riding four wheelers, hunting and coaching youth sports from soccer to little league football. He was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone in need. Les was also a caring grandfather to his five grandkids Brianne, Heidi, Jace, Makenna & Landen.

The family would like to extend thanks to the wonderful staff at Lighten Home Health & Hospice. To Janelle, Miwa & Ashley, thank you for all the love and care you gave to Patti & Les. Thank you to all the family friends who called, visited and expressed love and concern for Les, this meant a lot to the family.

Les’s remains will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later time.

I first met Les in the mid 80’ working at the same company.
He taught me a lot about Quality.
He was always a sweet and kind man. I loved his gentle ways and gentle smile and laugh.
May Father grant peace to your Soul, Les. We’ll meet again on the other side.

Les is my big brother and as a little girl I remember him as a kind and generous person, I remember when he got his first job at Shoppers Discount Store as a meat cutter and how he made sure he bought all of his siblings Christmas presents that year. I remember him being strong and tough in high school and he was a fierce protector of me when I got my first boyfriend, he threatened to beat up the boy if he made me unhappy. I love you Les and I am sure mom & dad were so happy to see you again. You will be missed. Love, Jan

My heart goes out to u all! I’m sorry for the loss of ur dad, hubby, and grandpa! Les, u will be missed. I remember as a little girl visiting ur family in Manti and the cookouts in which u would make those yummy turkey (or maybe it was chicken) strips that were always marinated ohhhhh so deliciously! I still crave them to this day and can never make them quite like u did! I will always remember the many camping trips, the many trips we all spent at Deer Creek with our families together! All our parents were having a blast on the beach, partying like the true Rockstars u all are, all of us boating and skiing, u water skiing on 2 skis while my dad pulled u on the boat & then all us kids runnin a muck on the beaches makin memories! Then after we would spend the rest of the time at Grandpas Place creating even better memories. Those memories I will always cherish! God speed Les! Watch over my Auntie as I know she probably is hurting indefinitely right now! Please hold her dearly and keep her heart at ease. Spread ur wings and watch over Minnie, Johnnie and ur grand babies. Give them all the peace and comfort ur family needs to carry on at this time. RIP Uncle Les. Sending my love ♥️🙏🏼
