1955 ~ 2012
Our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa, Loyd Arthur Cartie, age 57, passed away on October 19, 2012. He was born on October 6, 1955 to Charles and Marie Schmaltz Cartie in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
He married Lorrie Stirling and they later divorced. He married his sweetheart, Karen Thompson Makoni on September 25, 1999; they were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. Loyd was a kind and patient man who loved his family deeply and placed their needs before his own. He greeted everyone with a big hello and a hug. He excelled in many areas and had an eclectic array of hobbies and interests, including woodworking, airplanes, fishing, hunting, fly tying, painting, leather work, camping, ATV riding and gold mining. He had the ability to figure out how to build, create or fix anything, and always had a project “on the go”. Over the course of his life he worked as a welder, small business owner, real estate agent, and in the banking industry. Loyd was an accomplished guitar player and loved playing at family gatherings, or singing with the grandkids. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and loved to support them in all their sporting, school and church activities.
Loyd is survived by his loving wife, Karen; four children, David (Trisha) Makoni, John (Nicole) Makoni, Amelia (Stan) Williams and Clay Cartie; six grandchildren, Dylan Makoni, Dalton Williams, Kylee Makoni, Halee Makoni, Easton Williams and Trinity Williams; sisters, Linda (Terry) Mernickle and Yvonne (Joe) Fitzgerald; brother, Harold (Debbie) Cartie. Preceded in death by his parents.
