She was born on October 18, 1946, to her loving parents Adena Bertoch and Robert Wallace Rydalch. She grew up in Hunter, Utah and loved growing up with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby. She was in the middle of seven siblings and enjoyed a close relationship with all of them. She was always the shortest in the family but also the feistiest. She was athletic and competitive and participated in many sports and didn’t think losing was ever an option. When she was young, she was a fast runner and would challenge anyone to a race so she could leave them in the dust.
She attended Whittier Elementary, Brockbank Junior High, Cyprus High School and BYU and she could remember the school songs for all of them. She excelled in the drama and debate clubs and graduated in 1964. She made many lifelong friendships when she was young, and those relationships continued to bless her throughout her life. After high school she spent her summers as a camp counselor at Oakcrest girl's camp. Her camp name was Pixie and she loved her time there, being outdoors, singing songs, doing skits and meeting new people. She could remember everyone’s birthdays and her memory was unmatched. She read voraciously and would often stay up late into the night to finish a book. Reading a book a day was not unusual for her. She loved bowling and played on a few teams, those trips and memories with her friends were priceless to her.
She met her eternal companion, Joseph Stuart Hancock, in high school and they have been inseparable ever since. They were engaged before he left on his mission, and she faithfully waited for him. She was a part of a Missionary Club that went around and sang and talked at sacrament meetings while Joe was gone. They were married a month after he returned home on March 15, 1968, in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed their 55 years together. When she started to experience memory and dementia symptoms in the last few years it was hard for her and her family since her memory has always been so good even as she struggled with physical disabilities. Her sweetheart, Joe, cared for her unfailingly and they were the epitome of a loving, unselfish marriage.
She and Joe welcomed five children and eighteen grandchildren whom she loved fiercely and would do absolutely anything for. She is known by many as Aunt Nancy and was adored by her nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Her Halloween parties and Easter Egg Hunts are legendary, and we are so happy we were able to have one last Halloween party with her a couple of weeks ago. She and Joe loved to open up their home for any sort of gathering, she loved a house full of noise, laughter and fun. Her generosity was felt by many; she always wanted to make sure everyone she encountered knew they were important.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved to serve in all of her callings. She always went beyond what was expected and made every activity a grand affair. Her favorite callings were in Primary, and she made every single child feel special and loved. She joined the DUP, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and spent many years in leadership positions. She loved to host her chapter's annual Christmas party. She spent hours doing genealogy and she truly enjoyed knowing about her ancestors and lineage. She lost her parents as a young adult and worked very hard to keep her family intact and made sure her children knew about their ancestors.
She is survived by the love of her life, Joseph Stuart Hancock, and her children Joe (Robin), Daniel, David (Jennifer) and Holly (Ryan) Bowles. As well as her grandchildren and four (almost 5) great grandchildren - Jessica (Spencer) Shook - Theo & Mila, Jared (Peyton), Colton (Jorden) - Poppy, Jacob, Taylor (Austin) Farnsworth - Cooper, Ethan (Katie), Hannah, Makena, Jase, Tanner (Rebecca), Landon, Chloe, Lily, Grace, Alexis, Maverick, Hunter and Harper.
