Petelo “Mauikisikisi” Uhatafe, 49, passed away July 4, 2021 at University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born in Lapaha Tongatapu on December 1, 1971, to Limakau Uhatafe and Sosefina Latu Uhatafe. Petelo (known as Maui to family and friends) spent most of his childhood and early adult years in East Palo Alto, CA. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1999 where he shortly thereafter met his sweetheart Saolele Darlene Toafe. They were married later on down the road in Las Vegas, NV on September 7, 2016.
Maui is survived by his loving wife, Saolele Darlene Toafe, and his four siblings: sister, Tafalosa Petelo, and his four brothers: Sanele Uhatafe, Pau Uhatafe, Julius Uhatafe, and Kipa Uhatafe. Maui also had two brothers that preceded him in death, brothers Fafa Uhatafe (deceased) and Kava Uhatafe (deceased). Although Maui didn’t have any children of his own, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly, as if they were his own.
Maui enjoyed being around his family and talking to them daily. He made sure to talk to them often, and made it part of his daily routine. He was a very humble and emotional person, with a laugh that was contagious, along with a loving heart. Maui will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
