Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Phyllis Greene Wood of American Fork passed away peacefully Friday, May 16, 2025, of natural causes. Her family surrounded her at the time of her passing.
Phyllis was born November 10, 1933, in Glenwood, Alberta, Canada to Addison and Amy Greene. Phyllis was the oldest of the couple's five children. In the small farming community, Phyllis learned many skills such as cooking, baking, sewing, embroidery and more. All skills that would prove beneficial and she would be requested to utilize, later in life. She had a love of music, playing the piano, reading, history, and traveling. Phyllis was very talented in these areas.
Phyllis married Gordon McCune Wood on February 11, 1954, in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Gordon and Phyllis served two construction missions for the LDS Church, early in their marriage. They served in Apia and Tutuila, Samoa, making schools for the local population. Both were great experiences for them and created lasting friendships. Phyllis could create several friendships wherever she might be. Friendships that lasted decades and very long distances. People would always comment how they liked to talk to and hear the experiences she would share.
Phyllis had a great fondness for southern Alberta and the area where she grew up and was raised. Although Phyllis became a US citizen, there was always a soft spot for Waterton Park, Old Chief Mountain, and the old house in Glenwood.
Phyllis and Gordon had four children Keith, David, Marilyn (Blake), and Kenneth (Wendy). They would move the family several times between Cardston, Alberta, Utah, Samoa, and a stop in Denver before settling in Kearns, Utah. They also had ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She loved being a grandma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Addison and Amy Greene, husband Gordon, sister Loyia Harding, and grandson Collin Wood.
