Richard F Waagen

Richard was born on June 29, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fred Wesley Waagen and Wilma Christeena Hansen. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a teenager he worked as a lifeguard at Fairmont and Liberty Park pools. He also had a talent for drawing cartoons that made his siblings laugh.

He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a medical specialist nurse aide. During his time in the service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Marksman Badge.

Richard married Pamela Nelson in 1972, later divorced. They had 2 sons together, Travis and Justin.

In 1988, he met and married Carolynne Wiseman Snider. Together they had a daughter, Denise.

Richard worked for various machine shops as a machine operator, retiring after 20 years with L.A.R Manufacturing in 2010. His favorite times were spent with his family. He loved fishing, camping and road trips. And an occasional night out in Wendover was a real treat.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carolynne; sons, Travis and Justin; daughter, Denise; sisters, Dorothy and Loa; 3 grandchildren; 4 stepchildren; 9 step grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Wilma; brothers, Don and John.

A memorial service for a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Valley View Memorial Park and Funeral Home 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120. A graveside service and luncheon will follow.
