Dad was born July 07, 1929 in La Canova, New Mexico to his parents Ruben and Gertrudes Vigil. He attended school in Velarde, New Mexico, where he met and later married our mother Orlinda Valdez. They were married on September 05, 1949 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde, New Mexico. They were married for 72 beautiful years creating a lifetime of memories that will be shared from generation to generation.
He had various forms of employment but predominantly as an Insulator, then later at David Gourley Elementary School for the Granite School District. He always worked hard and was well liked and remembered by the students from David Gourley.
When Dad was not working, he made sure that he was at any sporting event for us or for his grandkids. He simply enjoyed being around his family. There were many fun-filled camping trips to the Uintah mountains, leaving lasting memories for all to share. Playing card games, Rummy being his favorite, and taking day trips to Wendover to play the penny slot machines.
Dad would love to grab and play his guitar, whether it was tuned or not, and doing his best to sing Mexican songs. If he did not have his guitar handy, he would simply pull out his old cassette tapes and listen to them.
The family gatherings were by far his favorite. He would sit back and enjoy watching everyone, and soak it all in. He participated in the games that were played - from pool, to horse shoes, to throwing darts and anything else that came his way. He enjoyed all of it.
He also enjoyed vacations to New Mexico, and Colorado to visit with his siblings, as well as the road trips that he went on to Yellowstone and Vegas.
You see, our Dad was so sweet, kind and easy going. He would do anything for anyone and did it with a smile. He always had a corny joke to tell, no matter how many times he repeated the same joke, no matter if the punch lines were not quite right, you could not help but laugh with him, because he always wanted to make you smile and laugh.
He was a devoted husband, and father to his five children and grandfather of 10: Michelle, Melanie, Teresa, Jennifer, Gabe, Angie, Lisa, Jamie, Meagan, and Josh. He also was a great grandfather of 16, and a great-great grandpa to 3.
Dad is survived by his children: Gabby (Jean) Vigil, Andy (Gina) Vigil, Barbara (Miguel) Zamarripa, and Debbie Vigil. His siblings, Roy, Orelia, Tony, Rosie, Orlando, Gloria, and Carmen; grandchildren: 9, great grandchildren: 16, and great-great grandchildren: 3.
Robert is preceded in death by his wife: Orlinda; parents; brothers: Ruben, Armando, Archie and baby Gerardito; sister: Toni; daughter: Eileen Vigil-Delamare; and granddaughter: Lisa Vigil-Hunsaker.
Dad, you have now been reunited with Mom whom you have missed dearly. We know that the two of you will be watching over us, which brings great comfort to us all. May you rest in peace and until we meet again. We love you.
