Sela Tapuosi Pau’u, lovingly known as Mele Mafi, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch whose life was defined by unwavering faith, her passionate nature, her compassionate heart, and dedication to her family.
Mele built her life around caring for those she loved. She was a steady and loyal partner to her husband, Semisi Havea Pau’u, faithfully supporting him through many years of church service and the responsibilities that came with his callings. Together they created a home rooted in love, commitment, and service to others.
Her greatest devotion was to her children. Mele gave much of her time, energy, and heart to caring for her sons with special needs, Cliff and Joe, providing them with dedicated constant care and support throughout their lives. Her sacrifices were made quietly and without recognition, but they reflected the depth of her love as a mother.
Above all, her pride and joy were her grandchildren, who she leaves behind, Veanna Leka Pau’u, Josephine Pau’u, Siale ‘Iongi, Kalani ‘Iongi, Clifton Pau’u, and Leveni Pau’u, who brought her endless happiness and inspiration.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Semisi Havea Pau’u, and her children Clifton Pau’u, Isileli Ilangana Pau’u, Veanna Pau’u Niutupuivaha, married to ‘Anaua Niutupuivaha, and Semisi Jordan Pau’u married to Sisilia Toki Pau’u.
She was preceded in death by her sons Joseph Pau’u (2019) and Semisi Havea Pau’u Jr. (1987).
Mele will be remembered for her steadfast dedication to her family, her quiet sacrifices, and the warmth and generosity she shared with those around her. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.
