Wilmer Dean (Woody) Woodbury, 79, died Saturday, November 13, 2010, in Taylorsville, UT.
Woody was born July 1, 1931, in Hinckley, UT to Wallace A. and Gladys Bennett Woodbury.
He graduated from Hinckley High School in 1949 as Valedictorian. He was the lead tenor in two operas in high school. He also sang in operas in college. He played bass horn in the marching band in high school and college and also the symphony orchestra in college. Woody graduated from Southern Utah University with an Associate’s degree in Engineering. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
He married Carla Jean Heaton on January 31, 1953. In 1971 he was sealed to Carla and his six children in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Woody was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Phelps Woodbury, his children, Sherri (Real) LeBeuf, Jeannette (Tom) Harris, Patti (Allan deceased) Dass, Linda Johnson, Calvin (Leann) Woodbury, Debbie (Dale) Merrill, and his brother, Edward Woodbury. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carla, his sister, Lorna Buhanan, and his brothers Ralph, Aarel and Grant Woodbury.
He was a member and High Priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the church in a bishopric and as Sunday School President. He was an Eagle Scout.
He was a member in good standing of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for 45 years. He was the founder of the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Association in Idaho Falls in 1967 and dedicated his life to helping others find sobriety in AA.
Woody loved music and sang in many Barbershop Quartets and the Chorus from 1968 to 2008. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities with his family.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at the Parliament Park Ward building in West Valley City (1510 W. 3940 S.). A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 16th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home in West Valley City (4335 W. 4100 S.) and on Wednesday at the church from 12:00-12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at the Valley View Memorial Park.
