Winona Janean Peterson, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025 in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born May 20, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lloyd Alvin Clement and Margaret Hardman Clement.
Winona was raised in Granger, Utah and was the eldest of four daughters. Idolized by her three younger sisters, Winona was tomboyish and athletic, but always had impeccable style and fashion sense.
Winona met Gerrit Charles Peterson at Cyprus High School, and they later married on May 25, 1954 when she was 16 years old and he was 18. Winona and Gerrit were married for 67 years until his passing on September 19, 2021 in South Jordan, Utah.
Together they raised three children in their home in West Valley City, Utah. When her daughter was young, Winona would sew incredible Barbie & Ken clothes for her dolls, and her craftsmanship and attention to detail ensured that her children always had the very best Halloween costumes.
Winona was an avid reader, traveler, gardener, and collector of Lilliput Lane Cottages. Her home, always immaculate and tastefully decorated, was full of the many treasures and curios she collected throughout her adventures. Winona cherished the many travels she had with Gerrit, including to Argentina, Europe, and Hawaii.
Winona is survived by her three children, Patti (Glen) Frantz, Gerrit (Georgia) Peterson, and Darren Peterson; her sisters, Gloria Oaks, Kathy Wong, and Karen Martinez; and her 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Winona is preceded in death by her husband Gerrit and her parents, Lloyd and Margaret Clement.
Winona had a deep love for animals, especially the many dogs she had throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Best Friends Animal Society or the Humane Society of Utah.
