With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy Loretta Angold of Los Alamitos, California, whose loving presence will be deeply missed. Dorothy passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at the age of 94.
Loretta was born on February 19, 1932, in Boerne, Texas, to the Hargrave family. She spent her early years in San Francisco, California, later returning to Hopkins, Texas, before finishing high school back in San Francisco, where she attended Lincoln and Mission High School.
While living in San Francisco, Loretta met the love of her life, Donald Lee Angold, who was stationed there in the Army following World War II. Their story began at the beach, where Dorothy and her best friend, Norma Jean, often went sunbathing. A year after meeting, the young couple married—he was 20 and she was just 17—beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.
The couple eventually settled in Long Beach, California, and in 1955 purchased a home in Los Alamitos, where they built a life together and shared 41 years of marriage until Donald’s passing in 1991.
Loretta dedicated much of her life to serving her community through her work with the Los Alamitos School District. She worked there for over 30 years, including 26 years as a beloved school bus driver. Known for her reliability and warm spirit, she touched the lives of countless students and families.
She was a devoted mother to her only son, Steven Angold, and a loving mother-in-law to Miriam Angold. She is also survived by her nephew, Robert Angold, and his wife, Debbie, along with extended family members who will cherish her memory.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Angold; her siblings Evelyn Smith, William “Junior” Parsons, Glenn H. Hargrave, and Jack E. Hargrave.
A woman of simple joys and deep warmth, Loretta will be remembered for her friendliness, caring nature, and nurturing heart. She found happiness in life’s everyday moments—enjoying her morning and afternoon cups of coffee, indulging in chocolates, and spending time tending to her beautiful rose garden. She loved reading and watching murder mysteries, especially enjoying the works of Louis L’Amour and classic John Wayne films. She also took great pleasure in quilting, garage sales, and antique shopping.
Loretta shared her home with many beloved pets over the years, including her Boston Terrier, Tiny; her calico cat, Dolly; and later her Sheltie-Collie, Chelsea, who brought her comfort and companionship.
She will be remembered as loving, giving, centered, and easygoing—a woman whose kindness and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel, followed by a graveside service at the Garden of Meditation. A reception will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Westminster Memorial Park Hospitality Room.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Loretta’s memory to Pentecostal Missions International (in honor of D.L. Angold), P.O. Box 477, Neosho, MO 64850.
Loretta’s life was one of love, dedication, and quiet strength. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
