Kerry Queal Martin was born on Sunday, January 11, 1942.
Kerry was an amazing individual who touched the hearts of many people.
He is survived by his brother, Michael Queal Martin, and numerous family and friends throughout the United States and as far away as Finland.
After serving in the US Army as an MP in South Korea and Germany, he had several jobs which included lifeguarding, before devoting many years of service working for the Social Security Administration and then for the City of Long Beach as a Librarian.
Family and friends were important to Kerry. He looked forward to his annual trips to Pismo Beach and the Central Valley to meet up with longtime friends. He also enjoyed the vacations spent with family in Texas, beginning from the time he was a boy and continuing throughout his life.
Kerry enjoyed reading as well as surfing, swimming, playing the violin and tending to his garden. He loved nature, and was very much a part of the restoration of the Colorado Lagoon, as well as being a dedicated volunteer in the conservation of local preserves like the Bolsa Chica and Los Cerritos Wetlands, as well as his particular favorite, the El Dorado Park Nature Center. He was also an active member of the community, and supported many non-profit organizations and local agencies.
Kerry was known for his lengthy, in-depth conversations; when you spoke to him, he listened to what you had to say, and his responses showed that he was interested in what you were saying.
He was a gentle man, a thinking man, and a stubborn man who loved trees, flowers, art, having a routine, and ice cream.
Kerry Queal Martin left this earth that he loved on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Our beloved Kerry will be deeply missed by many.
While absent from the body, he is present with the Lord.
Rest in peace.
