

Merle Edward Cade, 75, of Huntington Beach, CA, passed away, December 28th. He was born in Reynolds, Indiana on November 8, 1936 to Lena and Edward Cade. He grew up in Reynolds with his three siblings, Willis, Norma and Margaret, who preceded his death. Merle graduated from Reynolds High School.
After high school, Merle served 2 years in the Army stationed in Germany. He moved to Huntington Beach in 1956 and met Carole Cuff. They were married in 1958. His entrepreneurship began shortly thereafter when he purchased his first business, a Chevron Gas Station on Main St. & Beach Blvd. and later a Shell Station on Goldenwest St. & Warner Ave. both in Huntington Beach. This was the beginning of many business successes including commercial and residential properties.
Merle was also very involved and served in several community organizations including:
40 years with the Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade Board and a recipient of the William Gallienne Award, and 43 years in the Lions Club. Other organizations included the Elks Lodge, Boy Scout Troup 1, Junior Life Guards, Boys & Girls Club, Huntington Beach Playhouse and the Indian guides with his son, Eric Cade.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed basketball, especially since he was a Hoosier. He was a
star basketball player of his high school, and his other passion was his classic car collection. He arranged for the classic cars in the annual HB 4th of July parade. He enjoyed the wonderful lifestyle of Huntington Beach and the community of friends he had. Merle’s “signature” was his love for the city and its people. He would often take walks on the pier and downtown sharing great talks with his friends and strangers alike.
Merle is survived by his three children, Shelly Love of Washington State, Eric Cade of Huntington Beach, Holly Culhane of Malibu, and three grandchildren, Sarah Visentin, Brianne Zeman, and Harry Culhane. He is also survived by his loving fiancée Judy Pariseau of Huntington Beach.
Funeral arrangements will be held at First Christian Church at 1207 Main Street, Huntington Beach on Friday January 6th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to any of the following organizations in Memory of Merle Cade: Huntington Beach Host Lions Club, 7071-F Warner Ave. # 479, Huntington Beach, Ca. 92647 or Huntington Beach Elks Lodge #1959, 7711 Talbert Ave. Huntington Beach, Ca. 92646.
A viewing will be on Thursday, January 5th from 5-8 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Park & Mortuary at 14801 Beach Blvd., Westminster.
