On Sunday, January 11, 2021, Patsy Joanne Cassaday, a joyful, passionate, and spirited loving wife and widow to Charles V Cassaday, and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 88. Pat was born on Dec 6, 1932, Markley, Texas to William and Marion Swain. She lived a very simple life in a small town, as a young girl. At the age of 14 a flood destroyed what little her family had, causing her and her mother to move to Long Beach, California for a fresh start. Pat attended Poly High School, where she met several of her dearest and most cherished life long friends. She married John Stephen Gasper in Long Beach, California. Married 20 years, she had 3 children, John Stephen Gasper Jr, Robyn Michelle Hogan, and Robert William Gasper. Patsy’s precious first born, “Johnny” passed away suddenly, in 1991.
She was recently widowed in August 26, 2020. Pat lost her kind and loving husband Charles Vail Cassaday of 48 years, while living in the same residential care facility. Pat and Chuck had one lovely daughter, Kathryn Blair Cassaday. They were members at Virginia Country Club, and always held close to their heart the amazing times and memories they shared with so many loving friends, and family. A homemaker, most of her life, Patsy’s greatest joys were spending intimate time with her friends and family. In the past year, she spoke often of the joys and love she had for her sweet husband, all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Over the past 3 years, mother often reflected and spoke of her fondest memories in her life, they were both simple and grand! Mom spoke of the most beautiful and cherished moments in her life, and the most emotionally challenging moments in her life. She loved spending all day at the beach when her children were young, living in New Mexico for a year, dance recitals, baseball and football with her sons, evening barbecues at home, going to lunch, dinners with friends, holidays with family, quiet time with her beloved pets, traveling the world with Chuck and Katie, and with each of her children. She spoke lovingly and often of the birth of her children and grandchildren. While the sudden loss of her son, Johnny, and her precious grandson, Wesley, caused her a deep and profound ongoing sense of grief, her faith and belief in God gave her comfort.
In her final days, she wanted her family and friends to know that she loved them.
Remember Mom, and remember that she had a wonderful zest for life, who’s smile and laughter filled a room.
