Rex A. Brown, sunrise 02/12/1964 and sunset 08/07/2013.
Rex was the third child born to parents, Robert and Doshie Brown, who survive him along Brothers Rodney W. (his wife Anita), Rance E. and sister Rorie D. Brown. Also, Rex leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins and niece, Simone.
Rex was a dedicated Father and leaves behind four children: Lauren Christine (her mother Katherine), Austin Alan, Joslyn Marie and Sophia Rose (their mother Amber). We know that Rex will continue to be a guardian angel to support them as they make their way through life.
As a toddler and child Rex was a rambunctious guy who roamed Carrie Lane with childhood friends: John, Pat and Darren.
As a high school athlete he possessed great talent in track and football. He was a running back and CIF finalist in the 100 and 200 meters. Rex received a scholarship to Oregon State University. Then transferred to San Diego State University as a sophomore where he was track captain and lead sprinter in the 100 and 200 meters. Eventually, he became tenth in the world in both events and qualified for the Olympic trials. Rex then pursued professional football. He tried out with the Oakland Raiders, but a shoulder injury cut that endeavor short. Later in life Rex participated in Masters Track, where again, he excelled and was ranked in the top 10 in the country.
After a very successfully athletic career his character and nature drew him to be a fire fighter. Rex served with the Tacoma Fire Department for 14 years. We are all profoundly grateful for individuals like him who protect us and put their lives on the line when called on to help others during the worst of circumstances.
The loving son, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend and fire fighter will be sorely missed but not never ever forgotten.
Remarks from Rex’s Children:
Lauren Brown
My dad will always be the most amazing man in my life. The love we shared is not something that can be explained, but was an overwhelming, extraordinary feeling. I will think about him and miss him every day for the rest of my life. Just thinking about his perfect smile and loud laugh brings a smile to my face and warms my heart. I love you so much daddy. We will be together again, and next time it will be forever.
Austin Brown
Dad… There is just so much I can say about how great of a father you were. You always made me smile and laugh. You always gave me more and more reasons to look up to you. You were and always will be the best father. And Dad, I’m going to make you proud on the football field aight! I love you from the moon and back!!!
Joslyn Brown
I remember waking up every morning to you tickling me, and putting a smile on my face. And whenever I was mad or upset you would always tell me a joke or a story to cheer me up and make me smile. I love you, and I will always remember that about you.
Sophia Brown
I remember you taking me for rides on the motorcycle and me saying “go faster daddy faster!”…and I will always remember that. I love you daddy and I always will.
