Virginia Frances Carr, age 99, passed away on April 19, 2026, in California. She was born on August 20, 1926, in Kansas, where she spent her early years learning the value of hard work alongside her father on the family farm—milking cows and loading wagons with determination well beyond her years.
Virginia’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. She met the love of her life, Ellis Carr, on a blind date, and the two were married on August 10, 1943. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work. As partners in both marriage and business, they owned and operated a steel manufacturing company, working side by side to build not only a livelihood, but a legacy.
In addition to her role in the family business, Virginia was a devoted childcare provider, nurturing and caring for many children over the years. She was known by all who met her as the hardest working woman they had ever known—loving, kind, and just the right amount of sassy.
Virginia had a deep love for her family, whom she cherished above all else. She is survived by her two daughters, Birdie and Julie; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her strength and spirit.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: her daily Bible reading, bowling, bingo, and working on crossword puzzles. She had a special fondness for strawberry milkshakes, See’s Candy, and black licorice, and she was known for her radiant red hair and beautiful smile that could light up any room.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ellis Ray Carr; her granddaughter, Christine; her parents; and her eight siblings. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Carolina Chapel at Westminster Memorial Park.
A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Garden of Meditation.
Virginia’s life was one of unwavering strength, deep love, and enduring faith. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
