She was beautiful in every way--always smiling. Virginia "Sue” Stewart was born, at home, in Woodwood, Oklahoma to Ione Dockerty Davis and Wilbur Clifford Davis on May 31, 1936, the youngest of 3 girls. Wilbur spoiled his 3 girls, and Ione was Sue’s best friend-teaching her to cook and sew and make a home. Early in her life, Wilbur moved his young family to Oregon to fulfil his father, Lafayette’s, dream of owning a farm. It was extremely hard work for Wilbur and Ione, but for young Sue, it was a lot of fun and adventure.
After some tough years of farming, the Davis family moved to Long Beach, California and did their part in the WWII war effort. Many sacrifices were made by American families during this time and impressed on young Sue many of her values.
Young Sue was blessed with a very adult sounding voice and began singing professionally at the age of 5,and continued throughout her high school years.
Sue met Bill Dennin on a blind date , they married and had 4 children-Diane, Eileen, Bill, and David. In 1965, the young family moved to Huntington Beach, California ,where it was a wonderful place for the children to grow up. Mom was known for her smile, laughing, gardening, joking, kindness to her children’s friends, singing, playing piano, and according to my old friend- her go-go boots.
After working in the school district and for a vitamin company, Sue found her career at Mcdonald Douglas as a travel facilitator. It was during this time that she met her forever husband, forever love, and best friend Ken Stewart. It wasn’t long before they took early retirement and bought a motorhome to tour the U.S.. They stopped at many homes of relatives (known and unknown to them) to collect information, history, stories, and pictures which they used to create their colossal achievement of a family ancestry chart with pictures and history included. It is an amazing legacy.
Married for over 42 yrs, they were the best team, the best parents and grandparents and were always there to help their enormous family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They taught us so much and gave us so much love.
Sue was preceded in death by Ken, on May 6, 2024.She leaves children Diane Dennin, Eileen Dennin Rozar, William Dennin, and David Dennin; Ken's children Barry Stewart, Jeff Stewart, Randy Stewart (deceased) and Pam Stewart,18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. This world is a better place for Sue’s life. She will always fill our hearts and forever be in the arms of our Lord.
Services for both Sue and Ken Stewart will be held at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church on May 31, 2025 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any masses to be said for them or a donation to Parkinson’s research in honor of Ken.
