Chris Blondeau-Perry, 95, late of Weyburn Saskatchewan, passed away January 6,2025 peacefully in her sleep. Chris was an amazing horse woman. She dedicated her life to her family, her horses and her fight for Métis rights. She started working at a young age when World War 2 started, she and her sister Mary travelled to homesteads surrounding her home, tending to the livestock and helping the wives of the men called to war.
She had an adventurous life, leaving home with her sister Mary and finding work in Alberta and British Columbia. She met Wilf in Lethbridge and ventured out to British Columbia where they followed the motorcycle circuit. She had her sons out in British Columbia and then came back to Saskatchewan to have her daughter. In Saskatchewan, Chris raised her children and trained and showed her horses, while finding work in town. She worked at Town and Country Restaurant, Weyburn Red Wings, the Department of Highways, and at Souris Valley Hospital.
Chris volunteered and made waves in the Métis community by revitalizing the Michif language, teaching in schools, universities, and museums about her way of life, creating a Métis map of the Souris River homesteads and advocating for Inherit Métis rights.
As per her wishes, there will be no funeral, but a small intimate family gathering.
