

Ed was born on January 25, 1928 on the family farm. He attended Augusta School and then moved to Anderson School for the remaining years. Ed grew up on the family farm, raising cattle and grain. He also worked for the Midale Telephone Company and drove school bus for over 19 years. Ed learned to blacksmith from his Dad and enjoyed working with wood, making many scroll saw cutouts. He also loved to fish and would try and get out on the water as much as he could. He was forced to learn how to drive at a very young age because of his father's illness and mother's poor eyesite.
Ed married Alice Flora Marie Krueger of Midale, Sk on June 24, 1950 and together they had two children, Mary Ann and Brian. They enjoyed travelling with family and friends to many areas of Canada and loved getting away in the winter to warmer climate of California. Together they were able to take 3 cruises with family members and friends, plus a trip to Hawaii with 2 of his grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, William and Lena Scharnatta; sister, Faye Schulz; brothers, Orville and Charles Scharnatta; son in law, Douglas Werk and great grandson, Daniel Werk.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice Scharnatta of Midale; daughter, Mary Ann (Rob) Wood; son, Brian Scharnatta; grandchildren: Michael (Laurie) Werk, Jeffrey Werk (Tammy Shewfelt), Kristy (Mike) Maier, Matthew (Maguelone) Wood, Andrew Wood, Dallas Scharnatta, Amanda (Colin) Mohr; great grandchildren: Austin, Ethan, Megan Werk, Brielle, Joshua Werk, Morgan, Lexi Scott, Caleb, McKenzie, Evan Maier, Kegan Scharnatta; sister, Edith Jacobs as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Gerry Bauche celebrating. Prayers were said Monday, September 5, 2011 at 7:00 PM from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. A Private family interment at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK was held Friday September 9, 2011.
Pallbearers were Lester Scharnatta, Murray Scharnatta, Gary Scharnatta, Dale Schulz, Allan Jacobs and Elmer Geiger. Honourary Pallbearers were Harold Krueger, Ernie Krueger, Arley Krueger, Pat Wanner, Verne Cooke, Doug Heibein and Jim Arts.
In lieu of flowers donations maybe made in memory of Edward to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
