Edward Lawrence Zyla 1938 - 2018

Ed Zyla died peacefully on June 25, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Rosie Zyla; brother Edmund (Jean) Zyla; sisters Lois Ternes and Margaret Zyla. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Emilia Zyla; son Lloyd Zyla; daughter, Vivian (Hugh) Kelly and their family, Kirsten, Cole, Sidney, and Shannon Kelly; twin brother, Ted Zyla; Elaine (Hector) Bouvier; brother-in-law, Louis Ternes as well as other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ed was born in Weyburn and was raised in the Cedoux area where his family farmed. After his schooling, he embarked on a career as mechanic, working mostly on John Deere tractors. Returning to the family farm in 1972, Ed farmed there until his death at the age of 80 years. Ed loved music and learned to play the violin on his own. Accompanied by his wife Emilia, who played the guitar, the two entertained often for house parties and other social functions in the Cedoux area. He also enjoyed fishing and went on a number of fishing trips with the Gawel family: Emil, Ken, Ron and Jack. On these trips he soon developed a reputation for catching the biggest fish! Ed will be dearly missed by his family, particularly the grandchildren with whom he played many card games. Prayers were held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Fletcher's Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:30 am with Fr. Francis Plaparampil presiding. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation.
