Garry was born in Saskatoon on March 27, 1951 to Nicholas and Verna (Roy) Oleynick. Garry grew up in Saskatoon and attended King George Elementary School and remained friends with many of his schoolmates and neighbours. Garry’s high school years were spent at Bedford Road Collegiate, where he played football with the Redmen.
Following high school, he enrolled in Education at the University of Saskatchewan but found it was not for him so he enrolled at STI in Moose Jaw where he studied Business Administration. Garry held various accounting positions at the CIBC in Saskatoon and Lloydminster, Wilkinson Steel in Saskatoon and then made a move to Nanaimo and worked at MacMillan Bloedel paper mill. It was in Nanaimo that Garry’s son, Nick was born in 1980. Garry then moved back to Kindersley where he took a position in the fertilizer business, this was where his daughter, Mandy was born in 1984. He remained in the fertilizer business, spending time in Lanigan, Coleville, Weyburn and LeRoy. This was followed by a few short stints at other positions until his failing health precipitated his retirement.
Garry’s last home was in Saskatoon where he enjoyed spending time with his siblings as well as many friends. His children, their spouses and his grandchildren were the love of his life and he took great pride in their many accomplishments. Garry was an avid sports fan and he truly loved life.
He is predeceased by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Garry will be forever remembered by his son, Nicholas (Jay) of Regina, SK and their children, Jasmine, Nixon, Emilee and Oliver; daughter, Amanda, (Dave) Hodgkin of Weyburn, SK and their children, Jaxon, Chace and Sadie; brother, David (Joy) and families; sister, Gail (Leo) Adamowski; brother, Rob (Pam) and their son, Ryan; ex-wife, Marie Hogemann (Stonehouse) and ex-in-laws who have all remained close friends and truly loved him along with all of his extended family and new and life-long friends.
A Memorial Service for Garry will be held when restrictions permit.
